The Rosa Parks School Collaborative, which was founded in 1997 as an association, is an eighteen member body composed of parents, teachers, staff, public/private agency and community representatives. The Collaborative functions as a Board of Directors governing the operation of two programs, the Family Resource Center (FRC) and an extended day program known as Kids’ Village (KV). The Collaborative is fiscally sponsored by Lifelong Medical Care. The mission of the Collaborative is:

To make Rosa Parks School the hub of an integrated multidisciplinary network of educational, health, and social service resources that is designed to ensure the educational success of our children. We seek to support families of all cultures so that they may thrive economically and socially in an environment of mutual respect.

We are building a “School that is more than a school” in order that all kids are able to come to school ready to learn and hence reach their full potential. The Collaborative programs work together to help improve learning for all kids at Rosa Parks Elementary School. Our programs are well integrated into the school and are vital to kids’ success throughout the school. Below is a brief description of the programs we offer.

The Family Resource Center provides individual and group psychological counseling and case management to the children at Rosa Parks age’s five to eleven, and their families/guardians and supports an outreach program for families. Within that program we provide vision and dental screenings, Halloween Candy Exchange, Family Nights, Holiday Food Drive, and Language Exchange Program.

Kids’ Village is the before and after school program is overseen by the Rosa Parks School Collaborative as well. Since 1999, Kids’ Village has provided a safe, structured, positive, and an academically and socially stimulating environment supervised by a team of highly professional and well trained Activity Leaders. Enrollment in K.V. is open to all students at Rosa Parks, as long as space permits. Students enrolled in K.V. participate in a variety of daily activities including a program-provided snack, Academic Support Hour (ASH) and indoor, outdoor, and art activities.

Kids’ Village also offers several Enrichment classes and special events to its students. Enrichment class subjects have included many aspects of art, culture, science, cooking, sports gardening and nutrition education. Classes are taught both by Kids’ Village staff and independently contracted class instructors. Special events include a tri-yearly Enrichment Showcase Night, a Halloween celebration, community field trips and the end of the year KV Carnival and BBQ.
