School-wide Enrichment

FULL AND PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE!

ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

Deadline
All Registration Forms will be accepted until Wednesday, October 4th by 6pm. Please return all forms either to Alicia in the Main office or to Angie in the Kids’ Village office. If necessary, we will hold a lottery on Thursday, October 4th for any class that has more applicants than available spaces.

Payment
Please pay the $10 registration fee AND class fee(s) with your enrollment form. Please note that the registration fee is not a deposit and is separate from the class fee.

If your child is already enrolled in Kids’ Village on the day of the enrichment class, you will get a 20% discount on the class.

If your child is NOT in Kids’ Village but you need KV before classes that start more than 15 minutes after school gets out, there is an additional fee of $40/class.

Please make checks out to: LifeLong Medical / Rosa Parks, or contact Angie to pay by credit card.

Scholarships
Partial and full scholarships are available; just ask! If you would like to request a scholarship, please note on the registration form how much you can pay in the “We can pay” section. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Refunds
If your student does not get into any class, we will refund the registration fee and any class fees. We cannot offer refunds for any other reason.

GETTING TO CLASS

IF YOUR CHILD IS ALREADY IN KIDS’ VILLAGE, they will be picked up from their KV group and sent to their enrichment class. They will go back to KV after the class.

IF YOUR 1ST OR 2ND GRADER IS NOT IN KIDS’ VILLAGE, they should go straight from their classroom to their enrichment class at dismissal (a KV staff person will be available to help direct students everyday). You must pick up your child from their enrichment class by the end of the class.

IF YOUR KINDER, 3RD, 4TH OR 5TH GRADER IS NOT IN KIDS’ VILLAGE AND YOU NEEDS KIDS’ VILLAGE, your child will be picked up after school and signed into Kids’ Village. They will participate in KV until the are picked up from their KV group and taken to their enrichment class. You must pick up your child from their enrichment class by the end of the class and sign your child out of KV (attendance sheets will be  in the gym).

IF YOU DO NOT NEED KIDS’ VILLAGE, please bring your child directly to their enrichment class. You must pick up your child from their enrichment class by the end of the class.

Absences
Please contact Kids’ Village if your child will be absent from an enrichment class.

COOKING WITH CAMILA LOEW

Camila Loew, Ph.D. is a former Rosa Parks parent and has been teaching cooking at Rosa Parks since 2014. She is back to offer our students the chance to learn about delicious and healthy ways to prepare and experiment with flavors, colors, and textures of mostly
plant-based foods in a fun, relaxed setting. Camila is former Dean of Academics at Bauman College for Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts. She founded and runs Sobremesa: Gather Round the Table, through which she offers classes, workshops, catering and nutrition consulting.

ART WITH LISA KRONES-WHALEN

This class is good for kids who just can’t get enough creative time. Lisa shares her enthusiasm for the creative process and introduces many different media that combine to make a completed work of art.

CREATIVE WRITING WITH BRI ELLIOT
TUESDAYS 4:45-5:45 FOR 3RD-5TH STARTING 10/10
Come sample different writing styles and techniques through fantastically crafted exercises, allowing students to explore different options of writing genres and subjects, such as poetry; comics and graphic stories; adventure and mystery writing; creating alien worlds; The class is designed to both illuminate new and different styles, as well as help students improve the writing style they already enjoy. Our class will conclude by ‘publishing’ a compilation of writing pieces from each of the students, into one brilliant book! This class is being offered for free through donations given towards Carey Kozuszek’s memorial fund.

ROCKSTAR ACADEMY WITH MIKO TOLLIVER
WEDNESDAYS 4:30-5:30 FOR 2ND-5TH STARTING 10/11
New and continuing students learn guitar, bass, drum and/or vocal basics and fun songs in a group setting. Guitars are available to take home for the duration of the class (students must bring them back to school every week). All other instruments will be provided for use on site, though students are free to bring their own. There will be a final rehearsal on Wednesday, December 13th followed by a performance @ 6:00pm

ADVENTURES IN THEATRE WITH THE BAY AREA CHILDREN’S THEATRE

Get ready to jump into an exciting theatre adventure with your class! Adventures in Theatre! is an improv-based theatrical class that creatively engages students in 6 different areas of theatre arts. From acting, writing (story creation), directing, improvisation, song, and dance, Adventures in Theatre! uses many aspects of production to create a unique and student-driven experience. Our teacher, who jumps into character during the class, facilitates the student’s journey through their individually created characters and story creation. Students will share their work on the final day of class.

BASKETBALL WITH NITZAN YEROVAM

Designed to get children involved in a variety of physical activities, this basketball class teaches the fundamentals of basketball through simple drills, fun games, and developing fine motor, gross motor, and ball handling skills. The class is also designed to introduce and improve confidence, respect and the concept of teamwork in a non-competitive.

Soccer2gether has a vision to bring people together and create community through the great game of soccer. We are eager to develop soccer skills as well as life skills through exercises and games that engage our players in a variety of physical activities. Our program is focused on instilling basic motor skills, soccer fundamentals, self-confidence, and the virtues of teamwork and cooperation in a relaxed, unhurried and personal environment.

JIU-JITSU WITH ALAN JOYCE OF RALPH GRACIE JIU-JITSU 
WEDNESDAYS 4:30-5:30 FOR K-5TH STARTING 10/11
Jiu-Jitsu, an ancient martial art, is an efficient and practical self-defense system. Taught by Alan Joyce, a Rosa Parks parent and a black belt jiu-jitsu teacher at Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Berkeley, the class is geared toward development of ground fighting skills using techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. In this class, you’ll have fun, get in shape, build discipline & self-respect, all in a safe, friendly environment. Students will warm up then work on technique. Students will be paired with other students of the same size/age/grade. No experience necessary. All levels welcome. Gis will be provided for the duration of the class.

Children will learn long slow stretching, meditation, deep relaxation, along with lectures on health, nutrition and the power of positive thinking. Dah is a certified yoga instructor.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

TOYOLOGY WITH SARAH’S SCIENCE

Sarah’s Science has BRAND NEW projects, so newcomers and returners are both welcome. In these exciting hands-on science classes, we will build a variety of toys and use them to demonstrate major scientific concepts such as energy, electricity, light, gravity, motion, friction, magnetism and simple machines. Each student will construct and take home a science toy in every class.

MUSIC PRODUCTION WITH AKIYOSHI EHARA
TUESDAYS 4:45-5:45 FOR 3RD-5TH STARTING 10/10
In this class we will learn how to write, record and produce electronic music. Throughout the course we will learn the basics of mixing, EQ, MIDI programming and sound design. Each class will give students the opportunity to write, record, edit and mix their own original songs using the online audio production studio, AudioTool.

COMPUTER CODING WITH SCRATCH WITH THE CODER SCHOOL BERKELEY
THURSDAYS 4:45-5:45 FOR 4TH-5TH STARTING 10/12
Coding Frenzy – Introduction to Programming Using Scratch – Your aspiring coder will learn to create animated stories and games while learning important fundamental programming concepts. Scratch is a drag and drop platform that allows young programmers to play with sprites and blocks while setting a foundation for logical thinking – an essential skill that contributes to success in school, sports, and generally in today’s tech-driven world. Students will have the chance to let their imagination run wild as they get a taste of the endless possibilities of programming. Each student will be provided with a Scratch account so that they can continue working on their projects after class and show you all the great work they’ve done at home.
